Sports Team Training at Your School Available!

While acute injuries may have an obvious cause (eg slip or twist at take off) it is accumulative injuries that appear for no apparent cause that require a professional assessment of your body’s biomechanics and technique. Adolescent injuries differ from adult injuries mainly because the bones are still growing. The growth plates (physis) are cartilaginous (strong connective tissue) areas of the bones from which the bones elongate or enlarge. Repetitive stress or sudden large forces can cause injury to these areas. By far the most common cause of overuse injury is training errors.  Moreover, the most common error is “too much, too soon”. If exercise is applied in such a way that adaptation cannot occur, the excessive overload can cause microscopic injuries, leading to inflammation, which is the body’s response to injury. The goal is to bring all of this knowledge and correct forms of training and injury care to the individual for a more healthy and successful program.
